First Steps’ CinemaCon Footage Reveals More MCU Plot Details
Apr 10, 2025
A new era of the MCU begins with this year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Marvel’s beloved first family has now arrived at CinemaCon. The new trailer shared with the audience was relayed by Discussing Film, who described the events of the new footage as:
“The footage opens with our titular family/superhero group being brought onto a talk show, it is established that the Fantastic Four have been around for a good while in this alternate universe of the MCU and are beloved by their society. Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) arrive late to dinner with Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bacharach), but to make up for it, she announces that she is pregnant. Johnny congratulates the couple, saying Sue will make a great mom and joking that Reed has some work to do.
Things seem to be going well in this dimension until the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) comes to Earth and warns the Fantastic Four that their world has been marked for imminent destruction. The shadow of Galactus is shown looming over New York, and the Silver Surfer tells our heroes they are in a race against time to save Earth from destruction. A civilian asks Reed Richards if they are going to be okay, to which he answers, “I don’t know.” We see him consumed by his research, burdened by their heroic responsibilities.
Sue and Reed make a promise for the future of their child, and we are shown Reed giving a speech and telling the public that the Fantastic Four will protect them. The trailer ends with a shot of the Silver Surfer riding on the iconic board away from the burning flames of an explosion.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman, and stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things, Gladiator 2) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, alongside Julia Garner (Ozark) as The Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Green Knight) as Galactus. The rest of the cast includes John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Paul Walter Hauser. You can check out the synopsis for The Fantastic Four: First Steps below.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Paul Walter Hauser has teased what’s to come in the long-awaited reboot of The Fantastic Four. Speaking exclusively with MovieWeb, the actor teased how the Marvel movie will help the MCU get past the “transitionary phase” it’s in right now, as well as teasing that his character is likely to be one and done…
“I don’t think I could have been asked to do a cooler Marvel movie. It had a chip on its shoulder and spirit going in, knowing there were a couple iterations that didn’t really work for most people. And I think Marvel is in a transitionary phase right now. I don’t think that’s some big secret, and I feel like this movie is going to be part of the success of that transition, and kind of ringing a bell for the transition.
I enjoyed playing the character, thought the writing was great. The cast felt really lovable and succinct. And more than anything, you know, I never know now… even if a character dies, they get brought back because of the quantum realm of all the things. So it’s like, you know, could my character come back? Definitely could, never say never with Marvel. But I selfishly would like to come back because I really love that cast and crew, and think it’s a big privilege to be in that world and know that there is such an emotional investment globally for those types of stories.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase Six of the MCU, which will also include Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
