Gal Gadot Finally Breaks Silence On Wonder Woman 3 Cancelation, Doesn’t Seem Too Upset
Jun 23, 2023
Gal Gadot has finally addressed Wonder Woman 3’s cancelation, offering a surprisingly optimistic read on the matter. The proposed DCEU threequel was canned in December 2022, despite a reunion for Gadot and director Patty Jenkins being on the cards after 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984. That ended when Wonder Woman 3 was canceled in light of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebranding of the now-called DC Universe.

Speaking with Total Film (via Games Radar), Gadot is happy about her current situation despite the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3, explaining that she likes that she can pursue stories that she wants to tell on the screen instead of waiting for projects to come her way. For context, the actor is set to spearhead Netflix’s upcoming spy thriller Heart of Stone. Read her full quote below:
To me, starting and developing stories that I’m passionate about is an incredible thing. The fact that I don’t have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I enjoy doing it, it keeps me alive.
I’m not only going to do my own projects, I’m going to work as an actress-for-hire still. But the fact that I can go ahead and tell the stories that I’m passionate about – from ideas that I conceived, or from ideas that I find fascinating from people that want to partner with us – it’s an incredible thing.
[It’s] something that I’m so grateful for and I am definitely going to continue that because it’s worth it. I’m very, very excited and humbly proud.
Will Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Be Part Of James Gunn’s DC Universe?
Safran and Gunn were brought in by Warner Bros. to course-correct the struggling DC movie franchise. There is currently a string of confirmed projects set to release in the next few years that will lay the foundation for what it’s currently called DC Universe. That being said, there is no mention of Wonder Woman 3, in any kind of form, after Jenkins’ treatment of the threequel was canceled back in December 2022.
Just because Wonder Woman 3 isn’t part of the confirmed DC Universe slate, doesn’t mean that Gadot’s time as Diana Prince is also done. She made a surprise cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and more recently, the cameo-laden The Flash, which is expected to kickstart the soft reset of the previous iteration of the DC franchise. Wonder Woman is the only member of the original Justice League that appeared in the movie’s opening sequence. Regardless of the manner of her cameo, however, it effectively establishes that she is still an active player in the burgeoning DC multiverse, and can be brought back any time.
While there’s no Wonder Woman 3 in DC Universe’s Chapter 1 – “Gods and Monsters” slate, it’s worth noting that there is an in-development HBO Max series set in Themyscira called Paradise Lost. It’s unclear if this is simply a rework of the previously-announced Wonder Woman spinoff movie that is centered on the Amazonians. That being said, it’s definitely a project that could involve Gadot’s Themysciran princess.
