Gypsy Rose Blanchard Documentary Will Be Released on Lifetime in January

A new documentary titled The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard will premiere on Lifetime on January 5, 2024, focusing on her life and what led her to be involved in her mother’s death. A new documentary by Lifetime chronicling the life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard is set to premiere on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET. Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison in July 2015 after taking a plea bargain and being charged with second degree murder for her part in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. After serving eight years of her ten-year incarceration, Gypsy Rose Blanchard will be set free two years early on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
The documentary by Lifetime, titled The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, will be released in three parts beginning January 5, 2024, with future installments being released on January 6, and January 7. The docuseries will encompass six hours and focus on the life of Blanchard, and what led her to take part in the death of her mother, as well as her time spent in prison. Gypsy Rose Blanchard is part of the most famous case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy ever recorded, in which a parent or guardian exaggerates or induces the illness of another to garner sympathy and attention. In a statement from Gypsy Rose Blanchard, which she can be heard reading in the trailer above, she talks about how she was the relentless victim of child abuse, and is seeking liberation while on a journey of self-discovery. She goes on to say that she is not afraid to expose truths that have never been reveled until the release of The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. As a survivor of relentless child abuse, this docuseries chronicles my quest for liberation and journey through self-discovery. I am unapologetically myself and unafraid to expose the hidden parts of my life that have never been revealed until now.”
Speaking to People Magazine in an interview conducted prior to her release, Blanchard said, “I’m ready for freedom. I’m ready to expand and I think that goes for every facet of my life.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Story Has Been Seen on TV Before
While The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard promises to offer new information from Blanchard herself, this isn’t the first time her story has been seen on television. HBO produced a feature length documentary titled Mommy Dead and Dearest, which was released in 2017. The Act also premiered in 2019 on Hulu, and was a fictionalized account of Blanchard’s story that starred Joey King in the lead role. She has also been the subject of episodes of Dr. Phil, 20/20, and a previous Lifetime movie, Love You to Death.
When Gypsy Rose Blanchard spoke to People Magazine, she expressed regret for the murder of her mother, which saw her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, stab Dee Dee Blanchard several times, causing her death. Godejohn is currently serving a life sentence in prison for first-degree murder. In her interview with People, Blanchard said:
“Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”
