Original showrunner and writer Nic Pizzolatto is long gone, having parted ways with HBO over creative differences years ago. Instead, indie horror filmmaker Issa López, known for “Tigers Are Not Afraid,” serves as showrunner, writer, and director of all episodes. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, debuted today’s second teaser at the Code Conference.
Here’s the official synopsis for season two.
When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
On top of Foster and Reis, “True Detective: Night Country” co-stars Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes, with guest stars including Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand.
Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”) is one of the executive producers of the series, with a long line of names including some of the original creatives and actors who made the series famous, including director Cary Joji Fukunaga, actors Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and many many more.
