HBO’s Sports Drama Returns With A Focus On One Of The NBA’s Greatest Rivalries

“Winning Time” is a sports drama series for folks who aren’t necessarily big sports fans. With a ridiculous cast, incredible style, and a storyline filled with the highest highs and lowest lows, there’s really something in this HBO series for everyone, sports fan or not. Now, after a successful first season, “Winning Time” goes even deeper into the story of the ‘80s Los Angeles Lakers.

As seen in the new teaser for “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” we are picking up where Season 1 left off with the Lakers feeling on top of the world thanks to the emergence of Magic Johnson. But it’s clear that Season 2 is set to focus on the growing rivalry between Johnson and Larry Bird, which lasts for most of the early ‘80s and basically defines the careers of both men.

The ensemble cast for the sports series includes John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Adrien Brody, Jason Clarke, Gaby Hoffmann, Jason Segel, Hadley Robinson, DeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, Joey Brooks, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, McCabe Slye, Thomas Mann, Gillian Jacobs, Michael Chiklis, and Rob Morgan. “Winning Time” is once again showrun by writer/co-creator Max Borenstein. 
“Winning Time” Season 2 debuts on HBO on August 6. You can watch the teaser below. 
Here’s the synopsis:
Season two continues to explore the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. This season hones in on the period just after the Finals in 1980 through 1984, culminating in the first professional rematch of the era’s greatest stars: Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
