Impossible’ & More [Bingeworthy Podcast]

May 3, 2023

In today’s episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast, host Mike DeAngelo dives deep underground with Apple TV+’s new sci-fi mystery series, “Silo.” Created by Graham Yost (“Justified,” “Sneaky Pete,” “Speed”), the show follows the last survivors of a toxic Earth who live in an underground silo and live by strict tenets set in place by the government to ensure their survival. The show stars Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Tim Robbins, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Iain Glen, and Will Patton.

Joining Bingeworthy to discuss the show is star, Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Dune,” “The Greatest Showman”). During the chat, Ferguson discussed passing on the lead role of Juliette initially, despite liking the concept. This ultimately led to a role with more creative input and control.
“I didn’t love it. I didn’t love a couple of episodes,” Ferguson shared. “I was honest. We had a conversation and kind of left it at that.” But something stuck with Ferguson to the point that she kept circling back to check on the role.

“They went their way and I kept on searching back,” she added. “I kept on asking my agents, ‘Have they cast it? Do they have her yet?’ We kept on searching for each other. And then we had another meeting and they had changed the things I was seeking, and I saw that there was enormous openness for creative collaboration. And then they offered me the [executive producer] role.”
Ferguson also has two huge blockbusters coming out this year, starting with “Mission: Impossible -Dead Reckoning Part One.” The series has garnered a loyal fanbase due to star, Tom Cruise, and his obsessive need to outdo his previous practical stunts time after time. Ferguson noted that while filming, Cruise and director, Christopher McQuarrie, are always thinking of what’s next and changing things on the fly.
“I remember having dinner with Tom [Cruise] and I remember Chris [McQuarrie] and Tom talking about something, and I remember just listening in and thinking ‘What was it [they’re discussing]?’ Oh! They’re discussing the possible stunts for the next one!’” she explained. “Like, they’re constantly ahead. We haven’t even finished filming [part 1]. And it’s like, ‘Oh my God! Wouldn’t it be incredible if we had this and this? And what if she does this?’ They live it – every time they outsmart themselves. It’s never-ending.”
Then, later this year, Ferguson will return to Arrakis in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two.” During the interview, while teasing the much-anticipated sequel, Ferguson made something of a guarantee to the fans of the series.
“It’s going to become pretty epic,” Ferguson said. “I know I’ve said it before, but for people who enjoyed it – I loved it. I know that the second one is going to be better because of the scope and the scale and the characters and the grittiness. Jacqueline [West], the costume designer, and Donald Mowat, the makeup artist’s work on this is extraordinary. It went so well on the first one, so why stop there, right?”
“Silo” debuts on Apple TV+ on May 5. Listen to the full interview with Rebecca Ferguson below:
