It’s Hebrew School Drama With Adam Sandler On Netflix On August 25

It’s hit or miss when it comes to Adam Sandler‘s Netflix projects. On the one hand, there’s the highs of “Uncut Gems” (more a Safdie Bros./A24 joint than a Netflix one, but the streamer did help with distribution). Then there’s the lows of “The Ridiculous 6” and and the “Murder Mystery” movies. Somewhere in between all of that? Stuff like “Hustle,” one of Sandler’s better recent dramatic outings.

So where will “You Are So Not Invited To My Bah Mitzvah” fall on the Sandler-Netflix spectrum? That’s a tough call since in the case of this upcoming comedy it’s a family affair, with Sandler taking a backseat so his daughter may have the limelight. The family comedy sees Sunny Sandler play Stacy Friedman, who’s prepping a joint bah mitzvah with her best friend. But high school being high school, things go sideway socially, and it takes her entire family to help get the co-ceremony off without a hitch.
Here’s an official synopsis for “You Are So Not Invited To My Bah Mitzvah,” courtesy of Netflix:
Lifelong best friends Stacy and Lydia have long dreamt of epic bat mitzvahs but when popular boy Andy Goldfarb and Hebrew school drama come between them, their perfect plans go comically awry. Directed by Sammi Cohen, produced by Happy Madison and Alloy Entertainment, You are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah chronicles the high comedy and modern teen angst that comes with family, friendship, and first crushes.
“You Are So Not Invited To My Bah Mitzvah” also stars Idina Menzel, Jackie Sandler, Sadie Sandler, Samantha Lorraine, Dylan Hoffman, Sarah Sherman, and Luis Guzmán. Dan Bulla, Ido Mosseri, Jackie Hoffman, and Zaara Kuttemperoor round out the main cast.
Sammi Cohen directs “You Are So Not Invited To My Bah Mitzvah” from a script by Alison Peck, who adapts a book by Fiona Rosenbloom. As noted earlier, Sandler’s latest Netflix project doesn’t just co-star his wife and daughters; it’s also co-produced under the actor’s production banner, Happy Madison. Tim Herlihy co-produces with Sandler through them, while Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton do so through Alloy Entertainment. Executive producers on the film include Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, Barry Bernardi, and Greg Denny.
