Jason Bateman To Direct & Star In New Netflix Series About Rival Little League Fathers
Jun 14, 2023
“Ozark” ended last year and finished its run as probably the most critically-acclaimed project in Jason Bateman’s career. Not only did he earn rave reviews for his lead performance, but he also directed multiple episodes and was a creative force behind the scenes. It appears Netflix isn’t ready to be done with Bateman, as the streaming service has snatched up his next TV project, “Daddy Ball.”

According to Deadline, Netflix has purchased the rights to “Daddy Ball,” a new eight-episode limited series that will feature Jason Bateman as the star and director. The series is based on an Esquire article about two fathers who go to war with each other because of Little League baseball. Both men have rap sheets and are small-time criminals, but the way they handled themselves in 2012, with claims of stalking, threats, and more, changed their lives forever.
Not much else is known about the series, as of now. You have to assume Bateman will star as one of the two fathers. And though it does have a somewhat comedic element of this story revolving around the world of Little League baseball, there’s clearly a dark side that will likely be explored, which fits right in with the tone of the aforementioned “Ozark.”

In addition to directing episodes of “Ozark,” Bateman was also behind the camera for the 2013 film, “Bad Words,” as well as the film “The Family Fang,” the comedy series “Arrested Development,” and the crime drama “The Outsider.”
Obviously, it’s far too soon to know when we might see “Daddy Ball” debut on Netflix, but with Bateman involved, you have to assume the streaming service will want this in production ASAP.
