Katee Sackhoff Talks Season 3, ‘Ahsoka’ & Not Returning For ‘The Flash’ [Bingeworthy Podcast]
Jun 6, 2023
In today’s episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast host Mike DeAngelo gets to reclaim the dark saber with Disney+’s hit series, “The Mandalorian.” Created by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “The Lion King”) & Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars: Rebels”), the show follows the adventures of a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) as he fights to protect a child in the outer reaches of the galaxy far, far away. The show also stars Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, and more.

Joining Bingeworthy to discuss the show is Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Longmire,” “Riddick”), who plays the heir to the Mandalorian throne, Bo-Katan Kryze. During the chat, Sackhoff reflected on her journey to joining the series in Season 2, which started as a joke between friends.
“I saw Dave [Filoni] at [Star Wars] Celebration in 2018 in Chicago, and, at that point, I had just heard of the show, ‘The Mandalorian,’ and I made a joke that Bo was still alive, and she could potentially exist in this world, and that was pretty much it and it was just me sort of ribbing a friend and giving him the gears and just trying to make a joke,” Sackhoff said. “And a few weeks to a month or so later, my manager called and said that Jon Favreau wanted to sit down with me. So, we set the meeting, and I went in, and it was just Jon—Dave wasn’t even in the meeting—and we sat down, and we were having a discussion, and it took me a good fifteen-twenty minutes to realize that my face was already on all the pre-viz for Bo-Katan. Then I realized that he was asking if I wanted to do this.”

Fans often ask how much the actors that play Mandalorians are under the helmet, as star Pedro Pascal has finally admitted that he wasn’t there for most of Season three’s filming. When Sackhoff was asked how much she was under the helmet, she was clearly taking the opposite approach.
“I was at work 99% of the time,” Sackhoff said. “It’s a very, very different thing. For me, Bo is in and out of that helmet so much that it’s vitally important for me to be there every day and to really establish the movements and things like that. It’s really, really important. And so, it was never a question of whether or not I would be there.”
So, when will we see Bo-Katan again in the “Star Wars” universe? Many assumed she would be showing up in some capacity in Dave Filoni’s upcoming “Ahsoka” series, but Sackhoff says that might not be the case.
“No, no, I’m not in Ahsoka,” Sackhoff said definitively. “But, then again, you’d never know anyway. We have such heavy NDAs.” As for Filoni’s recently announced series-weaving event film, Sackhoff had even less to share. “I’ll just keep everything to myself about things that haven’t happened yet.”
Katee Sackhoff has also had stand-out roles in recent DC projects, like the CW series, “The Flash,” in which Sackhoff played the villain, Amunet Black. “The Flash” recently finished airing its final season, and fans noticed that Sackhoff could not reprise her popular role. Believe it or not, her absence had nothing to do with conflicting schedules.
“You know what – a lot of people really love that character in ‘The Flash,’” Sackhoff said. “I was really disappointed that I didn’t get to go back and actually reprise that role. Obviously, someone over there didn’t like me that much because I did everything short of getting down on bended knee. They did not want my character back again. I tried!”
Sackhoff also voiced the role of Poison Ivy in the animated adaptation of “Batman: The Long Halloween” and has since been very vocal about wanting to reprise the role in live-action. Lately, however, she seems less optimistic about the possibility due to a close friend with ties to DC Studios Co-CEO, James Gunn, also wanting the role.
“No, I haven’t [talked to James Gunn],” Sackhoff said. “Listen, I saw Karen Gillan wants to play her, too. And, like, she’s got a closer ‘in’ than I do, so I feel like that’s a given. I feel like I’ve got no horse in that race if Karen wants to play that character, but God, I love her. I can’t be mad at her. She’s fantastic, and I love her dearly, so I still would love to, for sure. I think that maybe I can play Poison Ivy’s mom. I can play Karen’s mom again. We can just do that again, and we can both play Poison Ivy. Like, dint versions, maybe. You never know.”
“The Mandalorian” Season 3 is currently streaming on Disney+, and “The Making of The Mandalorian Season 3” premieres on Disney+ on June 28. Listen to the full interview with Katee Sackhoff below:
