King of the Hill Revival First Look Reveals an Older (And Surprisingly Successful) Bobby Hill

Oct 29, 2024

After years of waiting, we finally have our first look at an older Bobby Hill as he will appear in the upcoming King of the Hill revival series. Not only do we now know that Bobby will be taller, a little slimmer, and sport some stubble, we also have our first details regarding where he is in life, with a (now deleted) Instagram post from returning cast member Grey DeLisle confirming that he is now a well-renowned chef. While this is a little different to the comedy career that he dreamed of as a child, it seems that Hank’s love of the grill did eventually rub off on his son.

You can check out the first look at a 21-year-old Bobby Hill below, as well as some details about his career as “King of the Grill.”

“Chef Bobby Hill has loved food his whole life. From weeknights around the dinner table eating his mom’s ‘Spa-Peggy and Meatballs,’ to overindulging in lutefisk at church potlucks, to celebrations with family and friends at Luly’s Cafeteria, food and the people it’s enjoyed with are the ingredients for his best memories. In fact, his career as a robata chef was inspired by his most cherished memory of all-weekends spent grilling with his dad.
A self-taught chef and one of the youngest contestants on King of the Grill, Chef Hill believes ‘good food can solve any problem.’ He draws on the influences of his childhood by combining classic Texas dishes with flavors from around the world. With Robata Chane, Chef Hill hopes to honor the art of Japanese robata and the German heritage of the Texas Hill Country while pushing culinary boundaries through his innovative fusion dishes.”

The King of the Hill Revival Will Debut on Hulu

Airing between 1997 and 2009, King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons and follows the Hills, an American family living in the fictional city of Arlen, Texas. Everyman Hank Hill works as assistant manager at Strickland Propane, and genuinely loves every second of it, and lives with his wife Peggy, a substitute teacher with delusions of grandeur; his son Bobby, with whom Hank has little in common; his adorably ditzy niece Luanne, and his pet bloodhound Lady Bird. The series follows the Hills as they manage to get themselves caught up in realistic, even charmingly mundane adventures. King of the Hill was met with critical acclaim throughout its run, and no doubt many are equal parts excited and nervous to see Hank, Bobby, and Peggy return to screens all these years later.

In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, Bobby voice actor Pamela Adlon has revealed what it’s been like to return to the role after all this time, saying it’s been “freakier” for creators and writers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels to bring to life a Bobby Hill in his twenties.

“We’re in the second season [creating] the reboot, and Bobby is 21. He’s a chef in a fusion restaurant in Dallas. And it’s been incredible. It’s just been really fun. I think it’s been freakier for Mike and Greg to think about Bobby going from 12 to being 21 and having a relationship and being a person.
But don’t we all go through that with our kids and our friends’ kids? It is shocking when I see my friends’ kids, and they’re all grown up. And I’m like, ‘Wait a second, what just happened?’ So, it’s just a little bit of a mess.”
