Netflix’s Supernatural ‘Sandman’ Spin-Off Investigates All The Pesky Ghosts
Nov 22, 2023
Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the “Dead Boy Detectives,” the newest supernatural YA Netflix series. OK, we’re catching up from Netflix’s Geeked Week and some of the trailers we missed during the deluge of content. Up first is “Dead Boy Detectives,” a spin-off series from the comic “Sandman” by Neil Gaiman, but not a direct spin-off from Neil Gaiman’s Netflix “Sandman” series, got it?

The Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz series follows all the zany thrills and heartwarming moments of Charles and Edwin’s adventures, solving supernatural mysteries that no one else can. “Charles was more or less me as a boy,” executive producer and Sandman author Gaiman told Tudum recently. “I loved writing him and Edwin and was proud to send them out into the world.”
The series stars George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, Kassius Nelson, Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell, Yuyu Kitamura, and Jenn Lyon.
Here’s the official synopsis, which says it’s set in the Sandman universe, but boy, they look totally different and obviously much more comedic. But hey, even the creators acknowledge this.
“If ‘The Sandman’ is this really lush, rich supernatural drama, then ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is the Hardy Boys on acid,” Yockey shared. “Hopefully just as addictive, but through a severely cracked lens.”
In this new supernatural series set in The Sandman universe, two teenagers find each other in death… and they will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson), they must work together to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.
Netflix has not set a date for “Dead Boy Detectives” yet, just announcing a “coming soon” tag at the end of its latest teaser trailer. But given all the other titles they released during GeekedWeek, it’s sure to be a 2024 title and maybe even January or February like some other shows they teased. More soon.
