New Doc Series About One of Pop’s Greatest Bands Hits Disney+ In May

What made The Beach Boys musical icons? The band that helped a generation connect with their California dreams is getting the documentary treatment. “The Beach Boys” gives viewers an unprecedented look at a group who defined ‘60s surf culture. Hits like “Good Vibrations” put them on top of the world, but the trials and tribulations that came with success would push some members to dreadful places.
Legendary producer and filmmaker Frank Marshall (“Alive,” “Congo”) and Thom Zimny (“Springsteen On Broadway”) direct this highly anticipated project, which features a script by Mark Monroe. The film is produced by Marshall, Irving Azoff, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa, and Aly Parker, with Monroe, Zimny, Nigel Sinclair, Tony Rosenthal, Cassidy Hartmann, Glen Zipper, Beth Collins, Jimmy Edwards, Susan Genco, Marc Cimino, Jody Gerson, Bruce Resnikoff, and Ben J. Murphy serving as executive producers.

The documentary’s official synopsis:
The Beach Boys” is a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come. The documentary traces the band from humble family beginnings and features never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews with The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, Bruce Johnston, plus other luminaries in the music business, including Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was. Viewers will also hear from the group’s Carl and Dennis Wilson in their own words, plus view a new interview with Blondie Chaplin and hear audio from Ricky Fataar.
One band’s rise to fame, tragedies, and legendary status is explored in “The Beach Boys.” The documentary premieres exclusively on Disney+ on May 24. Watch the new trailer below.
