Niecy Nash-Betts Reunites With Ryan Murphy For New FX Horror Series
Aug 15, 2024
Niecy Nash-Betts has gotten back into the Ryan Murphy business. After appearing in Murphy’s now cult favorite “Scream Queens” and earning an Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” Nash-Betts has teamed up with Murphy once more for “Grotesquerie,” a new 10-episode drama series for FX. You can watch the first teaser trailer for the program embedded in this post.

According to the Disney division, “Grotesquerie” begins with a number of heinous crimes disturbing a small community. “Detective Lois Tryon” (Nash-Betts), believes these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—taunting her. FX says “At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care, and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of ‘Sister Megan’ (Micaela Diamond ), a nun and journalist with the ‘Catholic Guardian.’” It appears Sister Megan has her own issues but still believes in humanity’s capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, believes the world is succumbing to evil. The pair look for clues to the mysterious events only to “find more questions than answers” (and, yes, that sounds like a threat of a continuing series).
FX reveals a cast that also includes Courtney B. Vance as “Marshall Tryon,” Lesley Manville as “Nurse Redd,” Nicholas Alexander Chavez as “Father Charlie,” Raven Goodwin as “Merritt Tryon” and, yes, Super Bowl champion and Taylor Swift’s current boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
Written and created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken, “Grotesquerie” is directed by Max Winkler, Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Elegance Bratton. The show is executive produced by Murphy, Woodall, Baitz, Baken, Winkler, Nash-Betts, Vance, Peter Liguori, Nissa Diederich, Eric Kovtun, and Scott Robertson.
The show will premiere Wednesday, September 25 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on FX with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
