Paramount+ Series Remakes Classic 1987 Film & Debuts In April

Mar 1, 2023

“Fatal Attraction,” Paramount+‘s latest series, is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name directed by Adrian Lyne, which in turn was based on James Dearden‘s 1980 short film titled “Diversion.” The Michael Douglas and Glenn Close venture was highly successful. It received six nominations at the 60th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Glenn Close’s iconic performance of Alex Forrest, who becomes obsessed with Douglas’ Dan Gallagher after the two have a short affair.

The television series has been in development for a long time. First announced in 2015 for Fox, the show would’ve been developed by “Mad Men” screenwriters Andre Jacquemetton and Maria Jacquemetton. The series was ultimately shelved in 2017. In 2021, Paramount announced that they would be adapting many of their most successful films into television series for Paramount+, which include “Grease,” “The Italian Job,” “The Parallax View,” “Flashdance,” and “Fatal Attraction” among others.
The series has been developed by Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes, with Silver Tree directing all episodes. Lizzy Caplan plays Alex Forrest, while Joshua Jackson will lend his take to Dan Gallagher. Additionally, Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, Brian Goodman, Wanda De Jesus, Jessica Harper, and Toks Olagundoye will also star in the show.

Its plot synopsis reads, “FATAL ATTRACTION is a deep-dive reimagining of the classic psychosexual thriller and ‘80s cultural touchstone. The new series will explore fatal attraction and the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.”
Produced by Cunningham, Hynes, Tree, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stanley R. Jaffe, and Sherry Lansing, the first two episodes of the show will premiere on Paramount+ on April 30.
