Paul Rudd Sent Jeremy Renner a Fake ‘Cameo’ Video to Cheer Him Up After Snowplow Accident

Apr 23, 2023

Actor Jeremy Renner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week to speak about the horrific accident that nearly killed him at the start of the year. On New Year’s Day, Renner had been devastatingly crushed in a snowplow accident, resulting in severe injuries that left him in critical condition. The Hawkeye star has bounced back and his recovery has been going very well, getting to the point where Renner has been able to visit Six Flags with family and participate in TV interviews.

Speaking with Jimmy Kimmel, Renner revealed how some of his pals were there for him in the aftermath of the accident. Among them was Paul Rudd, with whom Renner appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rudd sent Renner a video in the style of a “Cameo” clip, referring to the website where fans can special order video greetings from celebrities. Acting like he doesn’t know Renner and treating him as a fan he hasn’t met, Rudd wishes his friend well in the video, which was shown on the show.

“He happened to be in town as well promoting his movie and he came by a couple times to the hospital, always just making my day because he’s one of the funniest guys around, right? Paul Rudd? And then he sent me a video message,” Renner told Kimmel. “Anybody know Cameo? Where they can pay money and a movie star can say, ‘Hey, happy birthday!’ So, he made a fake one. I didn’t even ask him to. He made a fake one like I paid him money for a Cameo.”

You can see how the video turned out by watching the clip below, via Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“Hey Jerry, I heard you were a little banged up… got into a fight with a snow blower, apparently?” Rudd says in the video, intentionally getting Renner’s name wrong. “Anyway, I just wanted to send this video. It’s really from the heart, and I hope you’re feeling better… It sounds like you are. Apparently, you’re a pretty tough guy. So, maybe I’ll get to meet you one day, and wouldn’t that be something?”

Rudd added, “In the meantime, take care, and take it easy for a while. And next time, maybe just let the snow melt. Feel better Jerry.”

Jeremy Renner Is Lucky to Be Alive

ABC News

Renner also said on the show that he was “lucky” to be alive, and all it takes is one look at the list of injuries he’d sustained to know that this is true. For as devastating as the accident was, Renner was fortunate in that no vital organs were damaged. Looking at the Sno-Cat that ran him over, the actor seemed to be in awe that he wasn’t left in worse shape than he was.

“It’s like a giant metal-like cookie roller, right?” Renner said. “And it just missed every vertebra, did not hit any organs, membrane did not swell… my eye did pop out, that’s weird. But I got pretty lucky that none of the organs got messed up.”
