John Carpenter remains one of horror’s most revered filmmakers despite not making a film since 2010’s “The Ward” (or a good movie since arguably 1994’s “In The Mouth Of Madness.” But his name still carries weight, and so it dons Peacock‘s “John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams,” which premieres on the streamer next month.

According to Peacock, the six-episode series explores true tales of terror that took place in seemingly perfect American towns. John Carpenter doing true crime? That doesn’t sound like a perfect fit, but maybe his touch will elevate the series. Carpenter directs an episode of the show, and also composes the series theme music (his main activity in movies as of late).
Here’s an official synopsis of “John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams,” courtesy of Peacock:
John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams is a genre-busting unscripted horror anthology series from the mind of legendary director, writer, and producer, John Carpenter. The series explores the dark secrets and unspeakable evil that sometimes lurks beneath the surface of the sun-drenched streets, manicured lawns and friendly neighbors of suburbia. Each episode focuses on one true tale of terror, told by the real people who lived through it. Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene-work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage, combining the visual language of horror films with the tools and techniques of documentaries, creating a uniquely frightening experience for viewers.
Along with Carpenter, other directors on the series include Jordan Roberts, Michelle Latimer, and Jan Pavlacky. Storm King Productions and DIGA Studios produce “Suburban Screams” for Peacock, with Carpetner, Sandy King, Tony DiSanto, Roberts, Patrick Smith, and Andy Portnoy serving as executive producers.
“John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams” premieres on Peacock on Friday, October 13; a fitting date for a show like this. Watch a trailer for the upcoming series below.
