Phoebe Waller-Bridge To Write/Produce ‘Tomb Raider’ Series
Jan 27, 2023
Following her role as a feisty droid in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” actor/writer/producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) took another plunge into the world of blockbusters to reunite with Lucasfilm for their fifth and final “Indiana Jones” installment. Well, she must have had a bunch of fun on “The Dial of Destiny” as she’s looking to return to familiar franchise territory with a newly announced live-action “Tomb Raider” series at Amazon, a video game franchise very much inspired by likes of “Indiana Jones” but with a modern setting.
The Hollywood Reporter was first with the news and revealed that Waller-Bridge will not only write the “Tomb Raider” series but will be an executive producer as well. This project, of course, spawned from her overall deal with the streaming service and likely won’t be the only thing she ends up partnering with Amazon for. However, it’s unknown if she’ll take a starring role in the show or be on the creative side.

There have been three live-action films made previously with Oscar-winning actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander playing the role of Lara Croft, the British globetrotting heroine of the video game franchise. A second film starring Vikander had been in the works with directors Ben Wheatley and Misha Green attached in various stages before the project was thrown into limbo after MGM Studios lost the film rights. An animated series was once also in development at Netflix with Hayley Atwell set to voice Croft.
Waller-Bridge isn’t a stranger to the action-adventure genre as she was one of the screenwriters to help tackle the Daniel Craig swan-song Bond film “No Time To Time” and had been reportedly in early talks to work on a possible draft for “Bond 26” as producers look to reboot with a new lead actor. She had been attached to co-star with Donald Glover in a “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” series (also at Amazon) but exited the project on good terms.
