Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know

Apr 4, 2023

Adam Sandler is no stranger to animated movies. He has done lots of voice work for the first three Hotel Transylvania movies with undeniable success. Some critics believe that he has stopped trying in his films; he does some silly voices, takes all the money, and goes on vacation. This is an opinion, but as Dracula in the Hotel Transylvania movies, his comedic timing and voice acting were genuinely great, full of vampire camp or sincerity when needed.

Adam Sandler is also not a stranger to Netflix collaborations. From comedies like 2015’s Ridiculous 6 and 2020’s Hubie Halloween or dramas like 2019’s Uncut Gems and 2022’s Hustle, among so many others, their work has its fans. Taking all that into consideration, his popularity on and off the platform, and children’s movies with original concepts, his upcoming animated film Leo seems like it is going to please viewing audiences of all ages.

Netflix’s Leo: The Plot

Netflix

Many of us have beautiful memories of our class pet. It could be a fluffy bunny or a slimy frog. It could be a hamster that everyone wanted to pet or a snake eating hamsters and being loved by weird kids. It is not a unique idea to give personality to parts of our childhood lives. Toy Story did it with our toys, Inside Out did it with our feelings, and now Leo will do it with our school pets! Leo is a lizard, voiced by Adam Sandler, and he is a class pet beloved by everyone. But it makes sense that human love does not mean much to a lizard. They have other priorities in their life. So when Leo learns that he has only one year left in his lifespan, he decides to live his little lizard life to the fullest and do whatever happy lizards do. Yet, to do that, first he must obtain freedom, but while planning his escape, he realizes that he can not leave his children, all the students that loved him so much, behind with their horrible substitute teacher. So he must find a way to somehow complete all his goals without leaving anyone behind.

‘’Leo the Lizard (Sandler) has been stuck in the same Florida school for decades. When he learns he only has one year left to live, he plans to escape to freedom, but instead has to rescue his class from their horribly mean substitute teacher. It ends up being the strangest, but most rewarding bucket list ever…’’ reads the somewhat vague official synopsis of the movie.

Netflix’s Leo: The Cast

Netflix

As we have said many times so far, this is an Adam Sandler project. His decades-long filmography is rich and diverse, beginning with 1989’s Going Overboard and including films like Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and so many more! His daughters, Sadie Sandler and Sunny Sandler, are also in this movie. They have worked together before in Hotel Transylvania movies, but also Jackie Sandler, his wife and long-time collaborator in many films like the Wrong Missy, Murder Mystery, and more.

Joining the Sandlers, we have the stand-up comedian and actor Bill Burr, known for movies like The Front Runner, the King of Staten Island, Daddy’s Home, and more. Next, we have Jason Alexander, the Emmy and Tony winner, most famously known for his part as George Costanza in the TV series Seinfeld. Cecily Strong is also in this movie. She was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for ten years, from 2012 to 2022, but she has also taken part in many movies like Slow Learners, Ghostbusters, Staten Island Summer, and more.

Rob Schneider is with them, another ex-member of Saturday Night Live, a stand-up comedian and actor with a large body of work, with… unique movies like The Animal, The Hot Chick, and The Benchwarmers. Heidi Garner is also in this movie, an actress whose work includes films like Otherhood and Hustle, voice work like last year’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and television appearances in Saturday Night Live and Alien News Desk, among many others.

The cast is completed by Nickolas Turturo. Some of his previews include movies like BlacKkKlansman, Hellraiser: Inferno, and Escape: Puzzle of Fear and Nick Swardson from Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star and 30 Minutes or Less.

Netflix’s Leo: Release Date

Netflix

Leo is set to release straight to streaming on Netflix on Nov. 22, so we will have to show a little patience until the date arrives.

Leo seems to be a great animated movie. We love our pets and long for our school days, so as adults, we also have something to gain from this film. And since this is a film aimed at children, we are optimistic that some actors taking part in this with questionable acting choices will tame themselves. So fans can look forward to Leo when it arrives on Netflix this November.
