Rise of the Beasts Super Bowl Spot Introduces Fans to the Beast Wars

Feb 23, 2023

Transformers will never leave, they will forever fight their war on earth. But if you thought that once again we will have automobiles, and other means of transportation, transform into humanoid forms, think again! Now from humanoid forms, they turn into robotic animals, like leopards, rhinos, and gorillas.

A few days ago, during the Super Bowl LVII, a thirty-second television spot aired for the movie Transformers: Rise Of the Beasts. It was a cool teaser for the upcoming film, but also a commercial for a Porsche car. While a Porsche may not be on everyone’s shopping list, let’s see if the teaser convinced us to check the movie.

A New Enemy Is Coming

Paramount Pictures

Honestly, the audio part of the trailer is setting the mood in a very positive way. The first thing we hear is a remix of the song Juicy by The Notorious B.I.G. Nothing like some old-school hip-hop to lure us in. This song was chosen as a reference, because the album on which it was included, titled Ready to Die, was released during the same period as the movie’s setting.

The first thing we see is Noah Diaz, portrayed by Antony Ramos, the main human character of the movie, getting out of his Porsche Transformer, Mirage, in a cool shot while they are on the move. Mirage does some moves like he is break dancing, and Noah does not even look at him. A very blockbuster shot, that was a sweet little moment before we see the title and the screen turns dark.

With a soft bang, we fly over a dense forest, or more likely, a jungle. The words “for millions of years” appear before they fade out, and they take us over New York. “Our world has transformed,” then appear, taking us back to the jungle, but now we are down on the ground, between the trees and the plans. Silence and darkness overtake our screens after the words “but something else” appear. With a loud noise two last words, “has awakened,” arrive, and the sentence is complete.

Optimus Primal (the gorilla transformer that transforms between two humanoid forms) jumps towards the screen growling and lands on a shallow body of water, splashing the main human characters, Noah Diaz and Dominique Fishback (Elena Wallace). The robotic gorilla bangs his chest, while he screams a roar that combines animalistic force with metal sounds. It is time for the real protagonist of the movie, Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) to come to the rescue. He commands Optimus Primal to stand down as he points his weapon at him, he is ready for battle, but Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman) reassures him that he is not the one to fear. They have much in common, so there is a high chance to share an enemy. There is a darkness coming.

Say Hello to Some Familiar Faces

Paramount Pictures

We see the logos of the studios, and we pan over the city, this time it is night. The city’s artificial light reflects everywhere like it symbolizes the struggle of the machines versus the undefeated darkness. Optimus Prime runs on the bridge in his semi-truck form, and then we see an old, familiar face. Bumblebee transforms before our eyes, but then we return to the real reason this trailer was made: we see the Porsche and Noah. The car looks amazing, a feat of humanity combining artistic design with the latest technology. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could drive one of these? This trailer is a commercial for the car as much as it is for the movie.

Anyway, some police cars are following Noah and Mirage, but these inferior cars stand no chance against the Porsche. Noah tries to communicate with the policemen, and make them understand that he does not control the car, but they do not listen. Mirage has to create some illusions of himself (mirage, illusion, get it?) in order to get away from them.

We see Bumblebee running next to Cheetor in a desert before we are bombarded with action scene after action scene. Airazor shoots on a bridge, huge rocks fall behind Mirage, and a rocket is shot at Arcee, the girl transformer, because of course robots have genders. We see Scourge, the main villain of the movie, catching Bumblebee by his neck in the air. Primal says that they have never faced anything like this, but Prime is not concerned. Let them come and a full-on war ensues, Robots clashing, transforming, and fighting. We are back to the title, this time the logo switches between the Autobots’ and the Beast’s. We finish with a cute, funny scene between Dominique and Arcee, and then back to the first one between Noah and Mirage.

The movie seems to embrace the fun and silliness of the whole concept. The television spot can not convince us to buy a Porsche, but we will probably check the movie at least.
