Sandra Bullock Talks About What It Would Take to Make a SPEED 3 While at the SPEED 30th Anniversary Screening — GeekTyrant

Oct 16, 2024

This week, stars of the hit action flick Speed (1994), Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, reunited with the film’s director, Jan de Bont, to celebrate the 30th anniversary with a screening hosted by journalist Kris Tapley and his Speed fan podcast, 50 MPH. Tapley was the driving force behind the Beyond Fest screening, which took place at the American Cinematheque at Egyptian Theatre. It brought the trio together for the first time since the film’s release, and they enjoyed the screening with several hundred lucky guests, then sat down to chat about making the film, and the possibility of a future sequel.Fans are keen to ask about sequels these days especially, as we have seen some pretty fun follow-ups to movies we loved decades ago. So it’s natural that fans at this screening would want to know. When asked what it would take for a Speed 3 to make it to screens, Bullock said:“The geriatric version. It won’t be fast. All these things happened because the crazy man in the greenish jacket over there. He’s so soft and gentle today and I’m like, that’s not the man I remember. “But he’s the man who put the energy and the idea together, knew what the audience wanted and demanded it from everyone and everyone stepped up to play it. So what would that movie be that would make Jan’s brain and brilliance happy? It would require a lot from everybody. “I don’t know if we’re in an industry anymore that’s willing to tolerate it and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I could be wrong. … If he can’t make [what’s in his brain] for the audience, then he’s failed it felt like. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the audience.”At this point, it would have to be a great concept and perfect timing to get Bullock and Reeves to return for a sequel. Plus Jan de Bont has been retired for over a decade, and he is celebrating his 81st birthday this month. So the ship may have sailed for this Speed sequel, along with the not-so-successful Speed 2: Cruise Control cruise ship film. But never say never in Hollywood. Would you like to see the original stars reunite for a third movie?via: THR
