Scarlett Johansson To Star In Amazon’s Upcoming Streaming Series

Dec 17, 2022

Scarlett Johansson has officially left behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe and her decade-long run as Black Widow. Since her goodbye, the actress has been setting up a variety of different projects that showcase her range, including a Wes Anderson film (“Asteroid City”), a sci-fi feature with Chris Evans (“Project Artemis”), and more. Now, it appears Johansson is ready to give TV a try.

According to Deadline, Scarlett Johansson has signed on to produce and star in a new streaming series from Amazon, “Just Cause.” No, this isn’t an adaptation of the popular video game franchise. Instead, this “Just Cause” is based on the novel by John Katzenbach and tells the story of a journalist in Florida who is sent to cover the final days of a death row inmate. And wouldn’t you know it? The death row inmate’s case isn’t as ironclad as originally thought. The new series is written by Christy Hall.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Johansson has been attached to an adaptation of “Just Cause.” Back in the ‘90s, at the age of 10, Johansson had a minor role in the film adaptation of the novel, which stars Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Capshaw, Ruby Dee, and Ed Harris. Feel free to create the head cannon that fills the gap between the film and TV show, connecting both projects.

As mentioned, Johansson has been tackling quite a few different projects after being freed of her Marvel Studios deal. In addition to the other projects named above, she’s also set to appear in Kristin Scott Thomas’ directorial debut, “My Mother’s Wedding,” alongside Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, and Thomas. That film isn’t expected until sometime in 2023.
There’s no release date revealed for the new series, “Just Cause.”
