Scary Movie Franchise Vet Regina Hall Addresses If She Would Return For 6th Movie
Nov 8, 2024
Scary Movie franchise star Regina Hall addresses the chances of returning for a potential sixth movie. The franchise began in 2000 with Scary Movie, a comedy-slasher parody film that spoofs prominent horror movies of previous decades, including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Friday the 13th. The movie was a box office success, grossing more than $278 million globally, and spawned four sequels. Recently, it was confirmed that Scary Movie 6 was in development.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Hall, who starred as Brenda Meeks in the franchise, discusses her future in the upcoming Scary Movie reboot. She first spoke about her excitement that the Wayans brothers (who created the franchise) were back at the helm and her love of co-star Anna Faris. However, the actor remained tight-lipped about whether she would make a return, seemingly hinting that she would be interested if there was scope for the character to return. Check out her comments below:
Anna is great. I’m just very excited to know that the Wayans, who actually started the project out of their idea, are back on board and at the helm again. I’m excited for them. We’ll see if Brenda is in this new world. I’m thrilled at the possibility that the band could get back together again. That would be fun.
The Legacy Actor Might Have To Make Do With A Cameo
With the Wayans brothers back in charge of the franchise, and scripting Scary Movie 6, there are two ways the project might go. It could serve as a fresh reboot, with a new young cast, and cameos from legacy stars like Hall and Faris, or, it could be a continuation of the franchise, with the former cast members reprising their leading roles. Hall’s comments suggest she has not been officially approached about a return to the Scary Movie franchise, but she seems to remember the movies fondly, and her positive comments hint that she would return if asked.

There will be hope that the new installment can bridge the gap between paying homage to the original movies and setting the stage for a new legacy of films that speak to modern audiences. Given that Scary Movie 5 was released in 2013, there is over a decade of horror content that could be parodied, so it seems likely the reboot is going to lay the groundwork for several movies, which increases the opportunities for legacy stars like Hall to be involved in some capacity.

Our Verdict On Whether Hall Will Return For Scary Movie 6
A Brief Appearance is Possible, But A Meaty Role Seems Unlikely
While Hall is a legend of the franchise, she did miss out on Scary Movie 5, and there is a chance she might skip Scary Movie 6 as well. I think the most likely outcome will be a cameo, possibly even alongside Faris, to pass the torch to the next generation of characters, which would reference 2022’s Scream. Given that Scary Movie 6 is slated for a 2025 release, and Hall currently has several projects in development, it is highly improbable she would have a large role in the movie.
