Sci-Fi Sequel Hits Netflix On February 28

Feb 2, 2024

Back when the COVID-19 pandemic ruled the world in April 2020, “Code 8” dropped on Netflix to rave reviews. It’s the story of a little movie that could: Canadian director Jeff Chan fundraised $3.4 million to make his sci-fi genre picture, about a man with superpowers who reluctantly helps out a band of criminals for money to help his sick mother. And to no one’s surprise, Netflix head Ted Sarandos got rights to Chan’s sequel as soon as he could.

No “Code 8: Part II” hits the streamer later this month. The sequel picks up where “Code 8” left off, with Connor now out of prison and staying out of trouble working as a janitor. But when a kid with superpowers needs help, Connor finds himself reaching out to his criminal associates again.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Code 8: Part II,” courtesy of Netflix:
In this sequel to Code 8, Connor is out of prison and working as a janitor at a community center, having cut ties with his former criminal associate Garrett. Connor’s attempt at staying out of trouble is destroyed when he’s forced to help 14-year-old Pav escape from a pack of corrupt officers led by Sergeant King. King uses the newly launched robotic K9’s to track Pav down, while Connor finds himself once again reaching out to Garrett and his crew for help, but can he trust the man who landed him in prison in the first place?
“Code 8: Part II” sees Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell return to their respective roles from the 2019 film. The film also stars Alex Mallari Jr., Sirena Gulamgaus, Jean Yoon, and Aaron Abrams. Chan directs a script he co-wrote Chris Paré, Sherren Lee, and Jesse Lavercombe.  Collective Pictures produce the film.
If “Code 8: Part II” does well on Netflix, Chan hopes to do a third film in the series. So will his new movie catch lightning in a bottle again? Find out when “Code 8: Part II” premieres on Netflix on February 28. Watch a trailer for the upcoming film below.
