Series Debuts April 25 On Netflix

Apr 3, 2024

With shows like “American Gods,” “Good Omens,” and Netflix’s “Sandman” series based on his works, author Neil Gaiman has really been leading the charge for fantasy shows in the streaming age. And yet Another series adaptation of his work is coming to Netflix on April 25, helping to expand “The Sandman” universe. Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Dead Boy Detectives,” created by co-showrunners Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) and Beth Schwartz (“Sweet Tooth,” “Arrow”) and based on DC Comics/Vertigo characters that Gaiman and Matt Wagner created in the early 1990s (the sibling supernatural sleuths first appeared in the pages of Gaiman’s “The Sandman” back in 1991).
“Dead Boy Detectives” stars George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, Kassius Nelson, Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Yuyu Kitamura, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono, who bring their talent and charisma to the supernatural detective streaming series.

A synopsis for “Dead Boy Detectives” provided by Netflix reads as follows:
Meet Edwin Payne (Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Nelson) and her friend Niko (Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.
The show’s producing team comprises Greg Berlanti, Yockey, Schwartz, Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Gaiman.
Speaking of “The Sandman,” a second season spearheaded by Gaiman is in the works too. While the series experienced production hiccups last year due to the various industry strikes, slightly delaying the original plan for the show’s return, “Sandman” is reportedly back on track. Considering that “Dead Boy Detectives” hails from the same universe as Sandman, die-hard Gaiman fans will surely look for all clues that point to crossover potential. In the meantime, they’ll have to wait and see. “Dead Boy Detectives” arrives on Netflix on April 25. Watch the first trailer below.
