‘Slow Horses,’ ‘Percy Jackson, ‘What… If?’ & More

Dec 2, 2023

As the year winds down and certain shows have been pushed due to the previous WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the December lineup for television is relatively quiet this year, at least compared to the film slate. The lack of clutter, however, allows for some smaller or more niche titles to be given their due, even if we have to wait for some of the bigger returns and premieres to arrive in the new year. From a South Korean horror series returning for its highly anticipated season two to a new adult animated series on Netflix and a long-awaited adaptation of the “Percy Jackson” series, there’s plenty to seek out, especially if you’re looking for television that digs into fantasy.

“Slow Horses”
The quick-witted spy drama “Slow Horses” follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents—and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb—as they navigate the espionage’s world of smoke and mirrors. Returning for season three are all the leading players: Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Dustin Demri-Burns, plus recurring guest stars Jonathan Pryce, Sophie Okonedo, and more.
Release Date: Season 3 premieres December 1 on Apple TV+.
“Sweet Home”
After finding a passionate fan base for its first season, the Netflix Korean horror series “Sweet Home” returns for its second outing. Season one followed one teenager who had to team up with his neighbors in order to fight to survive against monsters who were once humans. Time has passed since the first season, and now, in season two, they must face a new, greater threat. Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, and Lee Si-young star.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres December 1 on Netflix.
“My Life with the Walter Boys”
Adapted from the 2014 novel by Ali Novak, “My Life with the Walter Boys” follows Jackie, who, after being recently orphaned, is taken in by the Walters, a family of ten sons. Developed by Melanie Halsall and co-written by Halsall and Ali Novak, the series stars Nikki Rodriguez, Marc Blucas, Alisha Newton, and Sarah Rafferty.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres December 7 on Netflix.
