“Someone’s Getting Fired”: ‘Thunderbolts*’ Star Is Confused About Why She Doesn’t Have an ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Chair
Apr 9, 2025
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the morally slippery and stylish Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (aka Val), recently learned during an interview that her name was missing from the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal. And her reaction? Let’s just say she’s got questions—and maybe a few firings to arrange.
During a Fandango interview promoting Thunderbolts* alongside co-stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Hannah John-Kamen, the Veep star was informed that she and Kurylenko were the only members of their ensemble who weren’t listed among the many names given “chairs” during the highly publicized Doomsday livestream event.
“Wait, what are you talking about?” Louis-Dreyfus responded, confused. When the interviewer clarified the situation, that classic wit kicked in. Or did it?
“Oh wow. I don’t know, but someone’s getting fired. I’m changing everybody who works for me now. They’re all out.”
Louis-Dreyfus isn’t the only big Marvel name who hasn’t been announced (yet) for Avengers: Doomsday. Notably absent from the official cast reveal were Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Brie Larson, Oscar Isaac, and even returning multiverse players like Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. Come to think of it, was your name there, reader? Let us know in the comments.
Who Does Julia Louis-Dreyfus Play in the MCU?
Despite the snub, Val remains one of the most quietly influential characters in the MCU’s Phase 4 and 5 landscape, sort of like a malevolent Nick Fury but without the eye patch or profanity. She first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021, gradually popping up across several Marvel entries with increasingly ominous undertones. Most recently, she was revealed to be the Director of the CIA in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, confirming she’s not just some meddling recruiter — she’s a serious power player, even if she’s not quite been well received by critics or viewers quite yet.
Val’s plans will take center stage in Thunderbolts*, where she puts together a team of anti-heroes that she is praying will end up killing each other, and yet ends up dismayed that they end up… working as a team. Hate when that happens. As for Val? Don’t count her out. If she’s not in Doomsday, it’s likely only because she’s pulling strings from the shadows.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027.
