Steven Knight Says ‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Script Is Almost Done & Will Shoot In Middle Of 2024
Jan 5, 2024
Is that “Peaky Blinders” movie ever happening? After all, it’s been two years since the final season of the hit British series premiered on BBC One. Series creator Steven Knight has an update, as Radio Times reports that Knight is busy with movie’s script, and hopes to start shooting it in mid-2024.

“I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” Knight told the outlet while speaking about the “Peaky Blinders” ballet “The Redemption Of Thomas Shelby.” I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?’” Those comments make it sound like Knight is nowhere close to finishing his script, but he added, “The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year.”
That’s a quick turnaround, but all the better since series star Cillian Murphy is an it-name right now, thanks to his turn in “Oppenheimer” last year. Last year Murphy told RT, “I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see, but I have no update for you on that.” Sophie Rundle had similar comments about a potential “Peaky Blinders” movie, saying that she hadn’t heard anything but that “the appetite” for it will be “generated by the fans.”
Knight previously told RT that the “Peaky Blinders” movie will be set during World War II and that fans should “expect the unexpected.” Fair enough, but Knight needs to finish his script first, and he has plenty of other upcoming projects to divide his time between. First up there? “This Town,” a limited series for BBC One. Then there’s “The Veil,” a crime limited series for FX starring Elizabeth Moss, and “A Thousand Blows,” another series about a women’s shoplifting ring set in Victorian England. Oh, and there’s “Maria,” a biopic about opera singer Maria Callas, which sees Knight reunite with “Spencer” director Pablo Larráin. So yes, Knight is busy, but hopefully not so busy that “Peaky Blinders” fans need to wait any longer for the show’s long-awaited movie.
