Steven Spielberg, Todd Field And The Daniels Earn 2023 DGA Awards Nominations

The Screen Actor’s Guild had their year-end say at sunrise and a few hours later, the Directors Guild of America revealed their own nominees for the 2023 DGA Awards. For the most prestigious honor, Theatrical Feature Film, the nominees are Todd Field (“TAR”), Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Steven Spielberg (“The Fablemans”). The latter won the Best Director award at the Golden Globes less than 24 hours ago.

Notable snubs in this influential Oscar-predicting category include Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”), James Cameron (“Avatar: The Way of Water”), Baz Luhrmann (“Elvis”), and S.S.Rajamouli (“RRR”).
The first-time director nominees were Alice Diop (“Saint Omer”), Audrey Diwan (“Happening”), John Patton Ford (“Emily the Criminal”), Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic (“Murina”), and Charlotte Wells (“Aftersun”).
On the television side, notable nominees in multiple categories included Tim Burton for “Wednesday,” Eric Appel for “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” (Roku’s first DGA nod), and two nominations for “Station Eleven” (Jeremy Podeswa, Helen Shaver).
The 75th DGA Awards will be announced on Saturday, February 18.
