Succession And The Bear Big Winners At 2023 TCA Awards
Aug 7, 2023
If you can predict anything for the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards its that the final season of “Succession” is as close to a lock as possible to win Outstanding Drama Series. With the Emmy ceremony potentially being delayed due to the ongoing guild strikes all the way to, yes, January, it doesn’t look like Jess Armstrong and his stellar cast will get to celebrate a fitting goodbye to the HBO mainstay anytime soon. In a sliver of good news, the “Succession” crew can now celebrate two major wins from the 2023 Television Critics Association Awards.

“Succession” took the TCA honor for Outstanding Drama Series for the second time (it previously won in 2020) and won the prestigious Program of the Year honor. Another Emmy favorite, FX’s “The Bear,” also won two categories: Outstanding Acheivement In Comedy and Outstanding New Program. Netflix’s “Beef” took Outstanding Achievement In Movies, Miniseries, Or Specials while the streamer’s “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” repeated its 2022 win in th Outstanding Achievement In Variety, Talk Or Sketch category.
In the continuing head-scratcher of is it a narrative or reality, TCA members voted “Jury Duty” the 2023 winner for Outstanding Achievement In Reality Programming. “Ms. Marvel,” “Bluey” and “The U.S. Vs. The Holocaust” also won major honors.
The TCA Awards hand out only two acting honors and the Individual Achievement in Drama went to Rhea Seehorn for “Better Call Saul” and the Individual Acheivement in Comedy went to Natasha Lyonne for “Poker Face.”
Due to the Writer’s Guid of America Strike, the TCA canceled its annual Summer Press Tour and what was set to be the first in-person TCA Awards ceremony since 2019. That means no standing ovations for Career Achievement Award winner Mel Brooks and Heritage Award winner, “The Carol Burnett Show.”
