“Abbott Elementary,” which took Program of the Year in 2022, landed four nominations along with newcomer “Poker Face.” Five programs – “Andor,” “Jury Duty,” “Mrs. Davis,” “Shrinking” and “Better Call Saul” – earned three nominations each. “Ted Lasso,” which earned Program of the Year along with two other honors in 2021 and two nominations in 2022, was snubbed for what is expected to be its final season.
The prestigious Program of the Year nominees include “Abbott,” “Andor,” “Better Call Saul,” “Poker Face,” “Succession,” “The Bear,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” and, in a major surprise, “The Other Two.”
The Outstanding Achievement in Drama nominees are “Andor,” “Better Call Saul,” “Interview With The Vampire,” “Succession,” “The Good Fight,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus” and “Yellowjackets.”
The Outstanding Achievement in Comedy nominees include “Abbott Elementary,” “Barry,” “Poker Face,” “Reservation Dogs,” “Shriking,” “The Bear,” “The Other Two” and “What We Do in the Shadows.”
Notable nominees in the individual Comedy or Drama categories include James Marsen for “Jury Duty,” Ayo Edebiri for “The Bear,” Dominique Fishback for “Swarm,” Christine Baranski for “The Good Fight” and Betty Gilpin for “Mrs. Davis.”
Some familiar faces returned to the Outstanding Achievement in Reality category as “RuPaul’s Drag Race” earned its first nomination since 2018 (it won the category in 2014). The Paramount staple was joined by 2021 winner “Couple’s Therapy,” “Jury Duty” (strange nomination), “The Rehearsal,” “The Traitors,” “Top Chef,” “Vanderpump Rules” and “Welcome to Wrexham.”
Disney+, Disney Channel and Hulu dominated the Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming nominations taking six of the nine slots. Nominees include “American Born Chinese,” “HIgh School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” “Jane,” “Love, Victor,” “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Never Have I Ever,” “Star Trek: Prodigy” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society.” The latter two have not only been canceled by Paramount+ and Disney+ respectively, but removed from the streaming services library entirely.
Programs overlooked by TCA voters this year include Peabody winners “We’re Here” and “Los Espookys,” “Dead Ringers,” “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” “Wednesday,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Great” and two-time Program of the Year nominee “Atlanta,” among others.
Overall, HBO and Max dominated the proceedings with 20 nominations, followed by FX with 10 and Disney+ and Peacock both with 9. Overall, the Disney networks (including ABC) earned a massive 27 nominations. Netflix, which led all networks or streamers with 13 in 2022, earned just five nominations this year.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Writer’s Guild Strike, there will be no in-person TCA Awards ceremony this year. Due to COVID concerns, there has not been an in-person ceremony since 2019. This year’s winners, including the the Career Achievement and Heritage Award honorees, will be revealed on August 7
