Supergirl Movie Woman of Tomorrow Announced as Part of DCU
Apr 18, 2023
More DCU news as James Gunn announces that a Supergirl movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, will make part of the first chapter of the rebooted comic book movie franchise. Speaking via social media, Gunn revealed several details of the project, including how it will introduce the character, her relationship with her cousin Superman, and promised that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will introduce “a very different type of Supergirl.”
“Next is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This is based on Tom King’s wonderful comics from last year. Tom has been one of the architects of this entire situation. He has been one of the guys in the room with us, along with four or five other writers, and I love his take on these characters where he just slightly turns them to be something very unique.”
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will take inspiration from writer Tom King, who James Gunn says has been instrumental in shaping the DCU so far. Released last year, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Kara Zor-El as she finds herself without meaning or purpose. While wallowing in her existential crisis, Supergirl is found by an alien girl, who asks the superhero to help her wreak vengeance on the people who destroyed her planet. Thus, they head into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.

“Within our story, we have Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents and nurtured, whereas Kara was in Krypton, she was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet, and lived there for the first 14 years of her life among [a] horrible situation where she watched everybody around her die. So she’s a much harsher and more f—ed up Supergirl than we’ve been used to this far.”
The story certainly sounds like a change of pace for Supergirl, and should finally take one of the Kryptonians into outer space on an interstellar adventure in live action. Finally.

Supergirl Will First be Played by Sasha Calle in The Flash
Warner Bros.
Before the adventures of Supergirl in Woman of Tomorrow, the DC hero will first be portrayed by The Young and the Restless star Sasha Calle in the long-delayed The Flash. While details of The Flash remain largely under wraps, we do know that the movie will do what the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have done for the MCU and introduce audiences to the DC multiverse.
The Flash will take inspiration from the comic book arc Flashpoint and finds Barry Allen traveling back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. Unfortunately, messing with the multiverse so rarely works out well, and this will bring unintended consequences to his timeline, with variants of familiar characters being introduced throughout the multiversal adventure. How exactly these events will play into the recalibrated DCU remains to be seen…
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller alongside Ron Livingston, Michael Keaton, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, Sasha Calle, and Ben Affleck. Following all manner of delays, director changes, and drama behind the scenes, The Flash is due to finally make his solo debut on the big screen later this year and is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2023.
