The Flash Shows New Suits for its Titular Hero and Villain

Jun 30, 2023

The release of The Flash is finally getting closer. After a long wait, fans of the Scarlet Speedster will finally be able to see the film adaptation of Flashpoint in theaters, with Ezra Miller starring as Barry Allen once again under the direction of Argentinian Andy Muschietti. Unfortunately, however, this character’s first solo adventure could also be his last.

More than a month after the first announcements about the next version of the DCU by James Gunn and Peter Safran, it seems that the only movie from the slot that will hit theaters this year within the franchise with a chance of surviving is Blue Beetle since the hero by Xolo Mariduena had not been introduced until now. It could be easier to make him fit into what is coming.

At the moment, only a few heroes from the comic book company have already confirmed their appearance in the new extended universe, including Superman, Batman, and Supergirl, who will arrive with Superman Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, and Woman of Tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Gunn will introduce some familiar faces like Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller in her The Suicide Squad spin-off series and introduce new groups like the Creature Commandos, who will debut in an animated series but could appear in live-action form in the future.

New Looks at The Flash and Dark Flash
Warner Bros.

The Flash, which hits theaters in July, will work as a small reboot for the current universe, which suits it very well considering the story it will present. In the film, Barry travels back in time using the Speed Force to save his mother, but it completely alters his own reality, creating one where metahumans don’t exist, and there’s no one to protect the world from General Zod’s invasion.

However, Michael Shannon’s character will not be the only villain in the film. Barry will also have to face Dark Flash, and thanks to new merchandising for the movie by Funko Pop! (courtesy of user Flashpointsaber), we have a new look at the costumes of the titular hero and his nemesis:

Created by Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, and artist Ron Wagner, Dark Flash first appeared in a brief cameo in The Flash (vol. 2) #138 before being definitively introduced in The Flash #141 in September 1998. Essentially, the character fills the same role as Death for those who possess super speed in the DC Universe, returning the speedster to his power source: the Speed Force.
