Tim Rozon and Sarah Levy On Those Trippy Storylines in Season Two of SurrealEstate
Nov 25, 2023
Susan Ireland could use a spa day. The character, played to winning ends by Sarah Levy on SYFYs SurrealEstate, has been facing extreme challenges in her lavish new house in season two of the hit supernatural dramedy. Let’s just say that when the house’s communication system traps you inside of it and then pulls a Carol Burnett, saying, “I’ve enjoyed having you here these past few days,” something is horribly off.
It’s one of the many inventive twists found in season two of the show, headlined by Tim Rozon (Wynonna Earp) and Sarah Levy, who previously starred alongside each other in the Emmy-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek. Their new series also stars Maurice Dean Wint, Tennille Read, Adam Korson, Savannah Basley, Jennifer Dale, and Allison Woolridge. The plots follow real estate agent Luke Roman (Rozon) and an elite team of specialists as they take on cases nobody else can. Oh, those pesky paranormal activities are always on the rise. Tim Rozon and Sarah Levy unpack the show’s storylines and their hopes for the future in this exclusive MovieWeb interview.
Tim Rozon Wants a Change
NBC Universal
Things drastically shifted at the end of season one of SurrealEstate. Supernatural titan Luke Roman discovered that he’d lost his special power. The ripple effects stretched into the second season, finding Sarah Levy’s character, Susan, taking over and running the agency. But Susan was met with her own set of challenges with a, well, co-dependent house. These shifts have created a tear in Luke and Susan’s relationship.
“I get so many comments from everybody wherever we’re at in the season saying, ‘Can you stop being such a tool to Susan?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, you know, what can I do?’” Tim Rozon shared. “I am actually watching the season and I understand it more, looking from the outside in, then when I was in it. Because Sarah and I get along so well, and our characters got along so well in season one. Season two was kind of tough for [the characters] not to be friends.”
He went to say that season two’s performance all comes from Luke’s insecurities about the loss of his special supernatural powers. “He’s just insecure about not having the gift — the thing that kind of made him unique or special before — and he’s trying to find himself, and his only outlet is to be insecure about it. And unfortunately, Susan is really good at the job without that gift [Luke has]. But I would like them to get back to where they were.”
Sarah Levy’s Take on Season Two
NBC Universal
Sarah Levy may be best known for her role as diner owner Twyla on the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek. Levy starred in the series opposite her father and brother, Eugene and Dan Levy, respectively. The beloved show is still among the most-watched shows on Hulu and Prime Video.
In season two of SurrealEstate, Levy’s Susan steps up and attempts to command the ship. “It’s this turn of events where Susan finds this wonderful house and slowly, but surely it’s kind of metaphorically — and then literally — sucked her in. So, it went from her running the agency and feeling really confident about it, then having this conflict with Luke coming back, and the two of them butting heads a little bit.” Levy added:
Tim and I were actually surprised at that turn of events, too, because we were connecting so well as characters, then kind of all of a sudden we were at odds [in the show]. For me, that was a big surprise, and I would assume it would be a big surprise for the audience. I don’t think people would have seen that coming.
About Any Real-Life Phenomena
NBC Universal
Is it possible for a show or film about paranormal activity to have its own set of real-life paranormal experiences? Sure. There have been reports — some exaggerated, others eyebrow-raising — circulating about. Allegedly, the lights went out the very first time the entire cast of Annabelle Comes Home came together on set, prompting some folks to ask, “Annabelle, are you there?” Imagine The Exorcist director William Friedkin’s surprise when he received an early morning phone call during production informing him that a fire had broken out on set, destroying everything — but one room. That room. Regan’s bedroom, where the fictional exorcist took place.

To that end, when asked whether the cast and crew experienced anything out of the ordinary while shooting SurrealEstate, Sarah Levy said:
“I don’t know. We haven’t had any considering what the content of the show is. I was almost hoping we’d experience some paranormal activity around the set. We didn’t. But again, shooting in a place like Newfoundland, in St. John’s, which is notoriously haunted, alone… aside from us even being there, the fact that we were surrounded by that energy going in to shoot was a really interesting thing. Because every local seemed to have a story, a real legitimate story. But I didn’t experience anything working on it.”
On a Surreal Future
Should there be a third season of SurrealEstate, Tim Rozon and Sarah Levy have some ideas. In fact, Rozon said he wants it to happen. “First of all, where we’re at in the season right now is, Susan’s kind of trapped by the house and people are starting to put the pieces together. So that’s where I want us to get to, and that’s pretty much where I’d like to go. If we start season three tomorrow, I’ll be happy, but I want the gang to be together. That’s for sure. So, there’s a big piece of the puzzle missing and that’s Susan. And we need to get our Susan back.”

Copy that. But Sarah Levy is eager to expand:
“I agree [with Rozon] but every one of us has been hooked up to a harness at one point or another during these two seasons, and they’re still very careful about what we’re able to do and what we’re not able to do in fight scenes and things. The beauty of a show like this is that it has the ability to go anywhere. And I think I can speak for all five of us when we say that if we are lucky enough to get another season, I want some real throw-across-rooms action and fights and falling off cliffs and harnesses galore. In Hawaii. In the summer.”
Surreal Paradise is it. In the meantime, catch SurrealEstate at 10pm ET Wednesdays on SYFY.
