Tom Brady expressed regret over his participation in a recent Netflix roast, citing its unexpected impact on his children as the primary concern. The 3-hour live event featured a series of sharp jokes not only about Brady’s NFL career but also his highly publicized divorce from Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2022 after thirteen years of marriage.
In an interview with The Pivot Podcast aired last Tuesday, Brady shared that while he enjoyed the humor directed at him, he found it challenging to appreciate those that inadvertently involved his children, saying:
I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids.
The former quarterback further added,
“It’s the hardest part about … like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize ‘I wouldn’t do that again’ because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, was unmistakably the star of the evening. The roast included a myriad of topics but it was the personal jabs that seemed to have crossed a line for him, particularly those that resonated negatively with his family. Brady has 3 kids, 2 with Bündchen and 1 with actress Bridget Moynahan.
Brady, known for his competitive spirit on the field, initially saw the roast as an opportunity for levity, a chance to engage in the kind of humor that helped him through previous public scrutinies like the Deflategate scandal.
“When I signed up for that … I love when people are making fun of me. I always said when I was going through the Deflategate stuff that I watched three things on TV: Premier League soccer, golf and comedy shows”
He recalled how comedy had been a refuge during tumultuous times in his career. His connection with roast master Jeff Ross seemed to further assure him that the event would be all in good fun.
“Every time I turned on ‘SportsCenter’ it was like, ‘are you (expletive) kidding me?’ I just want to laugh. I wanted to do the roast because Jeff Ross became somebody I knew.”
Tom Brady’s Rebuke at Netflix Roast Over Sensitive Joke
During the Netflix special Roast of Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback found himself in an uncomfortable spotlight, not for the jokes directed at him, but for one that targeted a close associate. The roast, designed to poke fun at Brady’s career and personal life, took a sharp turn when comedian Jeff Ross delivered a quip that crossed the line for evening’s honoree.
Ross shifted focus from Brady to Robert Kraft, the CEO of the New England Patriots, referencing the latter’s 2019 legal issues involving charges of soliciting prostitution. Ross’s joke, connecting Kraft’s situation to a fictional scenario involving Brady, aimed to elicit laughs but instead prompted a rare public rebuke from Brady himself.
The comedian suggested, after lauding Brady’s significance to the Patriots,
“Would you like a massage?”

The immediate reaction from Brady was both swift and private, with the quarterback approaching Ross during the event to firmly state,
“Don’t say that sh*t again.”
As the night continued, it was clear that for Brady, some jokes are better left untold, especially those that might cause personal offense or discomfort to friends and colleagues.
