Veteran TV Director James Hawes Brought In To Helm The First Two Episodes

Oct 7, 2024

While the search continues for the second lead of the series, it appears “Lanterns” has found one of its directors.
According to THR, British director James Hawes has been signed on to direct the first two episodes of DC Studios’ upcoming live-action series, “Lanterns.” This news comes on the heels of the recent announcement that Kyle Chandler will be one of the two co-leads of the show, playing veteran Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. The report also claims that casting for the second lead has narrowed down to “Rebel Ridge” star Aaron Pierre and “If Beale Street Could Talk” actor Stephan James.

Hawes is a veteran TV director, having previously worked on shows such as “Black Mirror,” “The Alienist,” “Snowpiercer,” “Raised by Wolves,” and “Slow Horses.”
“Lanterns” is setting itself up to be the first live-action TV series from DC Studios. The series is said to have a darker, “True Detective”-ish vibe. The show is set to follow two Green Lanterns, aka space cops, who come to Earth to investigate a crime. Though it involves very cosmic characters, it’s expected that the series is mainly going to be some sort of police procedural-type show.

The show is masterminded by the trio of Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and comic book creator Tom King. Mundy is the showrunner for the series.
It’s still a bit too early to guess when we might see “Lanterns” arrive on TV screens, but it’s clear things are moving ahead pretty quickly.
