Who Is the Bad Guy in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2?
Feb 7, 2025
After a two-year hiatus, the much-awaited sophomore season of The Night Agent made its premiere on January 23, 2025. The Night Agent’s debut season made the show one of Netflix’s most successful series, and its follow-up season has now followed the same path as its predecessor. Based on a novel by Matthew Quirk and created for screens by Shawn Ryan, Season 1 of the series saw a low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), answer a phone that is never supposed to ring and dive head-first into a conspiracy far above his pay grade.
Peter’s heroism in Season 1 led to him being officially instated as a Night Agent and sent on his first mission. However, as one would expect, missions are neither as they seem nor smooth sailing for Peter. Just 10 minutes into the opening episode of the season, Peter’s partner, Alice (Brittany Snow), is killed. Thereafter, chaos unravels. Peter goes off the grid, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) puts her tech skills to use to find Peter, intelligence is leaked by multiple parties and to top it off, there is a chemical weapon about to take thousands of lives. With its numerous twists and turns, here’s a breakdown of who is playing for whose team in The Night Agent Season 2.

Who Is Good in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2?
As audiences would expect, the series’ protagonist emerges as the hero in The Night Agent Season 2. However, there are some who doubt Peter’s integrity at the start, including Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren), his handler, and Aiden Mosley (Albert Jones), the deputy director of the FBI. Despite the doubts, as any true action hero would, Peter proves himself trustworthy, aiming only to achieve the greater good. Teaming up with Catherine and Rose, who also fall in the ‘good’ category, Peter tracks the leaked intelligence, uncovers the secrets behind the secret US military initiative, Foxglove, and ultimately stops the chemical weapon, ‘KX,’ from wreaking havoc at the UN premises.
Noor Taheri (Arienne Mandi), an aide to the Iranian mission who leaks information to the Americans in return for her family’s safety, is also someone who works for the greater good. Although her ultimate goal is to have her mother and brother extracted from Iran, and she is overcome by a sense of guilt at times, Noor helps Peter, Rose, and Catherine foil the attack. She is instrumental in creating the credentials necessary for Peter to gain access to the UN.
‘The Night Agent’ Season 2 Has Multiple Antagonists
Similarly to its debut season, The Night Agent Season 2 introduces several antagonists to its viewers. Although seemingly disconnected from each other at the start, by the end of the season, the series ties the actions of a majority of its antagonists together. The season opens with Alice and Peter tracking an individual who is about to sell intelligence. Through this operation, viewers are introduced to Solomon Vega (Berto Colon). However, it is made clear that Solomon is simply a cog in the machine and not the machine itself. With his own personal struggles, Solomon is simply a fixer for someone higher up, Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum).
Solomon’s boss, and perhaps the most formidable villain of the season, Jacob Monroe, is an “intelligence broker.” Monroe orchestrates the acquisition and sale of intelligence information, and it is Monroe who uses the means available to him to obtain information about Project Foxglove from Warren Stocker (Teddy Sears). Monroe’s weapon is knowledge, which he skillfully uses to compel Peter to break into the UN and also establish Governor Hagan (Ward Horton), who himself seems up to no good, as the next President of the United States. Despite not throwing a single punch in the series, Monroe holds all the strings and makes himself the most dangerous villain in the season.

The Mind Behind ‘The Night Agent’ Made a Thrilling Military Drama in 2012
Years before Shawn Ryan created ‘The Night Agent,’ he helped put together an excellent military drama on ABC called ‘Last Resort.’
Yet another group of antagonists in Season 2 is the Bala crime family. Portrayed as the main antagonist of the series, the head of the family, Viktor Bala (Dikran Tulaine), is behind the attempted release of KX on American soil. Held at The Hague on accusations of using chemical weapons against his own people, Bala seeks to exact his revenge on the US as he claims that Americans sold him the chemical weapon and then covered up their involvement. Pulling strings from behind bars, Bala uses his nephew, Markus (Michael Malarkey), and son, Tómas (Rob Heaps), to carry out his plan. However, in a clear depiction of his ruthless nature, Bala indicates that he prefers Markus over his own son, even seemingly condoning Markus’ murder of Tómas.
While Solomon, Monroe, and the Bala family are connected to the main Foxglove plot, a character who remains disconnected from the main plot but still appears as an antagonist in the season is Javad (Keon Alexander), the head of security at the Iranian mission. Portrayed as Noor’s love interest at the start, the more terrifying side of Javad is revealed when he uncovers Noor’s involvement with the Americans. He even attempts to threaten the position of Abbas (Navid Negahban), the head of the mission, in a bid to protect Iran. However, Javad remains a part of the side story and, despite his menacing qualities, does not collide with the main conspiracy of Season 2.
Who Is the Mole in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2?
Much of the narrative in The Night Agent Season 2 hinges on intelligence information leaks. The first mole that viewers are introduced to is Warren Stocker, a CIA officer who sells confidential Foxglove-related information to Jacob Monroe. The information that is sold becomes instrumental in the plans of both Monroe and Viktor Bala.
Noor Taheri, despite ultimately helping Peter prevent the release of Foxglove, is also a mole at the Iranian mission. She leaks information that she believes to be sensitive to Peter and his team. Peter, trusting the information to be related to Foxglove, even extracts Noor’s family from Iran, a mission that does not go exactly to plan. However, it is later revealed that the information Noor steals from the mission is not related to Foxglove but is instead a classified list of Iranian dissidents.

‘The Night Agent’ and ‘The Day of the Jackal’ are two of the hottest spy thrillers at the moment. But which is the better show?
At the beginning of the season, Peter also believes Catherine Weaver to be a mole, prompting him to go off the grid. During the mission in Bangkok, information relayed over secure comms is apparently leaked, resulting in the death of Alice. Peter suspects that this information is leaked by someone inside Night Action. However, it is revealed that this is not the case and that Catherine shared a genuine relationship with Alice. In fact, Solomon and his team, headed by the resourceful Monroe, were tapped into Peter and Alice’s comms during the mission, revealing their plans to the antagonists. This infiltration into Night Action comms continues into Episode 6, at which point, owing to Rose, the tampering is discovered.
Although the who’s who in The Night Agent Season 2 appears confusing at the get-go, the series reveals the links between its multiple characters by the season finale, even setting up Peter for a few important changes in Season 3. The Night Agent is available on Netflix.
