Racking up over 1.2 billion views on TikTok I finally visited the most talked about shop in York as we bring you this York Ghost Merchants review.

Tiny little ghosts made from a special trade secret material litter this quaint little shop on The Shambles in York, simply walk in and choose a ghost that calls out to you but choose wisely, no two ghosts are the same making this particular purchase a very special one indeed.
Priced at £9 for a small ghost or £17 for a large ghost you pay at a quirky retro counter, pose your ghost in a little photo op booth and capture his departure from The York Ghost Merchants.

As during our last visit to York the queue for the ghost merchants was over 2 hours we decided to email in advance and make an appointment, this way, no matter the length of the queue you just roll up at your appointment time and stroll on in.
It’s an absolute joy if you can tolerate all the funny looks you get from the people who have been queuing for ages to get into the shop seeing you stroll straight in with no questions asked.

On the Ghost Merchants website it explains what they’re all about, it reads:
Our business follows the traditions imposed by The Sorrowful Guild of Master Ghost Makers. We adhere to traditional values and methods, our ghosts are always made by hand and the techniques that we use ensure that each York Ghost is a true original, complete with an embossed maker’s mark.
York Ghosts are individually packaged in exquisite travelling boxes featuring a hand drawn Ghost Merchants shop, to make the ghost feel at home on its journey from the Shambles to far away places.
The Original York Ghost is wrapped in an 1852 map of York, and our Little York Ghost comes in the “Boo” box with oval gilt edged viewing aperture.

After writing about why the York Ghost Merchants are so popular only a few months ago, the second I got inside I asked one of the members of staff why the shop was so popular every single day, was it heritage? A special craftsmanship? and she simply said, she didn’t know.
A viral trend of people walking into a shop and getting a unique figure of their choosing that blew up Tik Tok has kept this little shop going ever since and she was just grateful that it happened.
Speaking of staff, they were all lovely, an absolute credit to the shop. I could have spoken to them all day!

Whilst in this tiny little shop it was beautifully themed and with ghosts absolutely everywhere (Even behind picture frames) it’s your job to hunt them down and find your favourite.
Some ghosts are special as they’re made from different materials or come in limited quantities but the craziest thing about the Ghost Merchants is that the second you purchase one the resale value shoots up instantly.
Coming in their own little presentation box for safe transportation from the venue and wrapped up in a vintage York map paper wrapping it’s the perfect little keepsake although people are naturally reselling these little ghouls for profit.

Ebay is flooded with £17 ghosts costing £28 upwards. That’s quite the return but let’s be honest, you really shouldn’t be selling them.
These ghosts have been specifically chosen by yourself as they make you feel a certain way, they’ve called out to you, they really shouldn’t be resold.
