Zack Snyder’s Animated Take On Norse Mythology Hits Netflix On September 19

Sep 13, 2024

Let’s face it, Zack Snyder‘s current tenure with Netflix has been …middling. 2021’s “Army Of The Dead” had its (few) champions, but Snyder’s recent “Rebel Moon” movies and their director’s cuts got gutted by critics. Add in the fact that Netflix scrapped plans for “Army Of The Dead” sequels, including an animated series spinoff, and Snyder’s future with the streamer is not as bright as it used to be.

Maybe “Twilight Of The Gods” will buck that trend? Snyder’s animated take on Norse mythology premieres on Netflix next Friday, and it could serve as a palette cleanser for Snyder fans after the bloated, overstuffed nonsense of “Rebel Moon.” Or not. It’s at least something different from Snyder, who needs critical high marks right now.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Twilight Of The Gods,” courtesy of Netflix:
In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds and great despair, LEIF, a mortal King, is saved on the battlefield by SIGRID, an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love. On their wedding night, SIGRID and LEIF survive a wrath of terror from THOR, which sets them – and a crew of crusaders – on an against all odds and merciless mission for vengeance.  This heroic story of love, loss and revenge, is a journey to Hell and beyond… across fantastical lands, battlefields fierce and bloody, and wars waged against Gods and demons.
“Twilight Of The Gods” features the voices of Sylvia Hoeks, Stuart Martin, Rahul Kohli, Paterson Joseph, and Jamie Clayton. Other voice actors on the series include Pilou Asbæk, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Kristofer Hivju, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, John Noble, Peter Stormare, and more.
“Twilight Of The Gods is a Stone Quarry Animation production, with Xilam Animation as animation house. Snyder co-creates the series with Jay Oliva and Eric Carrasco. Snyder also leads executive producers with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Oliva. Directors on the eight-episode series include Snyder, who directs the first and last episodes, Oliva, Andrew Tamandl, Tim Divar, and Dave Hartman.
“Twilight Of The Gods” hits Netflix on September 19. Watch a trailer for the animated series below.
